How It Works
What happens at each step, from choosing a passage to downloading the MP4.
1. Choose a surah and ayahs
Start on the new project page. The surah list, the ayah numbers and the text you see all come from one verified dataset that is bundled with the site. The project is created in your browser — no account, nothing sent to a server yet.
2. Choose a reciter (or upload audio)
Online Recitations: your browser sends only the surah, the ayah range and the reciter’s id. Our server asks Quran Foundation for that chapter recitation, downloads it from Quran Foundation’s audio host, checks that it really is audio, and — when the provider has timestamps — cuts it to your ayahs. Your browser then gets the audio from our server, never from a third-party address.
Upload Audio: MP3, WAV or M4A up to 60 MB and 15 minutes. The server checks the actual file content (not just its name) before using it.
3. Synchronize the ayahs
Each ayah has a start and end time. They come from one of three places, and you can always change them:
- Provider timestamps — supplied with many Quran Foundation recitations.
- Auto Sync — the server finds the pauses in the recording and suggests boundaries, marking uncertain ones for review.
- Tap to Sync and manual timing — tap while listening, drag boundaries on the waveform, or nudge them with the keyboard.
Details: how Quran ayah timing works.
4. Customize
Templates, backgrounds, typography, animations, word effects, progress bar, surah title, reciter name and an optional watermark. The preview is drawn with the same code the server uses for the export, so text position, size and line breaks match.
5. Preview and export
When you export, the server reloads the Quran text from the verified dataset (it doesn’t trust the text from the browser), draws each ayah as an image, and FFmpeg combines background, text, animation and audio into an H.264/AAC MP4. The file is then checked with ffprobe before it can be downloaded. Progress shows the real steps, not an estimate.
Exports are free for everyone. To keep the shared server available, a video can be up to 10 minutes long, each visitor can run 2 exports at a time, and there is a limit on how many exports one connection can start within an hour. If the server is busy, you’ll see “Rendering capacity is temporarily busy” — try again shortly.
6. Download
Download the MP4 and upload it wherever you like. The server deletes rendered videos after about two hours and uploaded audio after about a day; see the privacy policy.
